What is Mercedes-Benz Vehicle Exit Warning Technology?
October 19 2020,
One of the most underestimated dangers when parking in an urban environment occurs when you open your vehicle door. As they weave their way through urban traffic, cyclists and moped drivers, as well as pedestrians, are at risk of being struck violently. This is known as "dooring".
Fortunately, Mercedes-Benz has adapted a safety technology it already uses to reduce these collisions.
For example, the Mercedes Exit Warning System monitors the vehicle's blind spots, even when the car is stationary, for three minutes after the ignition is turned off.
This function, also known as Exit Warning Function, is part of Mercedes' Blind Spot Monitoring System and can detect passing vehicles, cyclists or motorcycles travelling at speeds over 7 km/h. Even a runner will be detected. This safety device emits a visual alert in the side view mirror, warning of the approach of a moving object.
If the driver or passengers attempt to use the interior door handle, an additional audible warning will sound, and the ambient door lighting will begin flashing red. This alerts occupants to any potential obstruction before they exit, substantially reducing the risk of an unfortunate incident.
This new feature is just one more proof that for Mercedes-Benz, everyone's safety is a priority.
