The secrets of the DYNAMIC SELECT system from Mercedes-Benz
June 10 2020,
Mercedes-Benz vehicles are real gems in terms of technology. They are equipped with a host of systems designed to make their owners' everyday lives easier and more enjoyable. One of them is the DYNAMIC SELECT system, which allows you to select driving modes to suit your mood or the road or weather conditions.
In concrete terms, thanks to settings accessible via a thumbwheel, the driver can select different mechanical settings that transform the vehicle's behaviour. Each one modifies the responsiveness and sensitivity of the accelerator, the transmission (gear changes), the height and rigidity of the suspension, as well as the precision of the steering.
Let's take a brief look at the specifics of each. Note that some settings may be specific to a particular model or version.
Comfort
This is the automatic setting when the car is started. On all models, this option intelligently optimizes the vehicle's parameters for a smooth and refined drive.
ECO
This mode is perfect for long-distance driving as it adjusts throttle, air conditioning and other settings to reduce fuel consumption.
Sport
This setting, as the name suggests, adds a sporty touch to the vehicle by improving throttle and steering responsiveness, especially. The engine speed is increased before gear changes, allowing maximum torque to be drawn from the high-speed range of naturally aspirated models. Suspension settings also become firmer, helping the car take flat corners at higher speeds.
Individual
This option gives you the possibility to create and save your own driving settings. If you prefer the Sport settings for steering, but prefer the Comfort settings for throttle and suspension, the choice is yours here.
Other driving modes can also be set up depending on the nature and class of each model, such as Sport+, which takes Sport mode to a new level, Slippery, which provides extra grip on slippery surfaces by adjusting power and suspension response, and Offroad for SUVs. The latter improves the ground clearance of some models, in addition to providing a power distribution that facilitates obstacle clearance.
On AMG models, Race offers quicker gear changes, crisper throttle, steering and suspension response. It can also be used to modify the behaviour of certain driving aids.
