Mercedes-Benz C-Class vs. BMW 3-Series: a merciless battle
May 27 2021,
If there's a no-holds-barred battle in the automotive industry, it's between the compact luxury sedans offered by two of the world's biggest rivals, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
We won't try to tell you that one car is excellent and the other mediocre; each has been seducing thousands of enthusiasts every year for decades. Each has been refined to the point where it is now a charm in every respect.
However, if you had to choose just one, would it be the Mercedes-Benz C-Class or the BMW 3-Series?
Let's take a look at what tips the scales in favor of the one with the star on the front.
Style
Tastes are not up for discussion, as we all know, but when it comes to style, we have to give the edge to the Mercedes-Benz representative. The reason is simple. At BMW, they don't seem to know what to do with the front grille anymore. On the sporty M3 and M4 versions, it has become so massive that some buyers have sworn to look elsewhere.
Mercedes' front end design has evolved, but it has always remained tasteful and classic. Elegance, it is clear, is found in the oldest German car brand.
The technology
Although its design is a bit older, the C-Class has a technological advantage over the 3 Series. It comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a multimedia system that comes to life on a 10.3-inch touch screen. BMW may offer screens of the same size, but we're talking about options or units that come with certain variants only. As standard, both screens are only 8.8 inches. Then there's the question of graphics quality; we're better served at Mercedes-Benz on that front. Moreover, the configuration options are superior with the C-Class, so it is possible to customize the presentation as much as you want.
The identity
In the past, people chose a Mercedes-Benz for comfort and a BMW for sportiness. Mercedes has added a sporty touch to its variants and BMW has added comfort to its offerings.
A tie? No, because by the way, Mercedes-Benz has not lost its identity. The brand is still serving up great luxury. At BMW, the incisive character of the models is no longer the same, so much so that we no longer recognize the 3 Series of yesteryear.
Let's face it, we're talking about two excellent vehicles. However, the model that stands out the most here is the Mercedes.
