Towing capacity and Mercedes-Benz vehicles: the top five
May 17 2020,
When you think about the products of German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz, you imagine luxury vehicles with cozy comfort, less workhorses ready to move mountains. Yet when it comes to hauling loads, many don't give up their place.
Let's go for a top 5, starting with the one with the most modest capacities to the most competent in the family.
1 - GLC
The GLC is the bread and butter of the Mercedes-Benz lineup when it comes to SUVs. Luxury, comfort, convenience, practical space - it's all there, including a towing capacity of 1588 kg or 3500 pounds. For many owners of small trailers and boats, that's more than enough.
2- EQC
The 2020 decade marks the debut of the EQC SUV, the German company's first all-electric product. While we're not expecting miracles when it comes to towing with an electric vehicle, the surprise is interesting here, with a capacity of close to 4,000 pounds, or 1,800 kg.
3 - GLE
When you get to the GLE in the Mercedes lineup, you’re getting into the pro league. The towing capacity here can reach 3500 kg, or 7700 pounds. The latter will meet more than 95% of the needs of the common man.
4 - GLS
If you want a seven-seat SUV instead of a five-seat one, then the GLS will provide you with more room than the GLE. Resting at the top of the family's luxury hierarchy, it's a little more coquettish than all the others, which is an added value for those whose image needs to be maintained. In its case, the capacity is the same as the GLE's, 3500 kg.
5 – G Class
If you want as much in terms of towing capacity, but even more in terms of off-road skills, then look no further than the iconic G Class. This model has a styling that seems frozen in time, but it's still brimming with modernism, the result of years of careful design work. With it, you can also hitch 7700 pounds in the back, the equivalent of 3500 kg.
