Details on the next Mercedes-Benz S-Class
July 26 2020,
Next September, Mercedes-Benz will present the new generation of its S-Class. The model is a massive milestone for the brand, as it's always with it that the latest technologies are introduced. The product is a showcase giving access to the manufacturer's know-how.
As a result, the company is not allowed to miss out. So, seven years after the presentation of the model that is about to leave us, here's what we're beginning to know about the one that will replace it.
New... from A to Z
Sometimes, when a model passes from one generation to another, it retains its structure. This is a clean slate. In fact, since the beginning of the current model, Mercedes-Benz has been working on designing its successor, including a new platform that will be able to accommodate all the variants planned. Better yet, it will be able to be used for many other future products because of its modular nature.
The powertrains
Under the hood, we'll have a choice, as we always do. A 6-cylinder engine version that takes advantage of the hybrid technology will be available. Of course, there will also be variants with a twin-turbo V8 engine. Even a plug-in hybrid version is in the plans, as is an all-electric variant that will be part of the EQ product family (EQS).
As for the V12 engine, it will always be there, but beware, you won't be able to take advantage of it anymore with the AMG S 65 variant, which is coming to an end. As a result, you'll have to turn to the Maybach to savour its symphony. As for this powertrain, you should know that, for the first time, it can be combined with the 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
We should still be able to find the rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants in the lineup.
Driving dynamics
Finally, behind the wheel, you know you're going to inherit the best of the brand. However, it's what's new that catches our attention. For example, the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will get a head-up display with augmented reality, so that as we approach a corner or any situation, animated graphics will appear on the screen to inform us.
Then, for those interested in autonomous driving, the S-Class will benefit from Level 3 capability from the start, and then Level 4 capability during production. In short, the notion of a rolling laboratory is becoming more and more a reality.
In September, we'll know more about the new S-Class.
